Start Here: Your First Steps Into Regenerative Growing

New to the Learning Hub? This is where to begin.

If you have ever stood in a yard, a patio, or a kitchen and wondered where to start, you are in the right place. The articles below are arranged in the order we teach them at Eden Earth Gardens, from understanding the ground beneath you, to capturing what you throw away, to building the living soil that grows food for years to come.

You do not need land, money, or experience to begin. You need a willingness to observe, and a little patience. Each piece below is free, practical, and written for a beginner. Take them in order or begin wherever your curiosity pulls you.

The Path

1. The Beginner's Guide to Soil Health

Start by learning to see what you are working with.

Dirt and living soil are not the same thing. Before you plant or amend anything, learn what your soil actually is and how to read it with your own hands. This article covers the soil food web, the four habits of a soil steward, and a simple jar test that reveals your soil's structure in a single day.

2. Building on Good Ground

Understand why preparation comes first.

Every lasting garden begins with good ground. This piece is a short reflection on what "good ground" means in soil and in life and why rushing to plant without preparing the earth rarely lasts. Read this one for the mindset before you get your hands dirty.

3. Waste = Wealth

See what you are throwing away.

Kitchen scraps, leaves, and cardboard are not garbage. They are the beginning of your garden's fertility. This article introduces the idea that waste is wealth and walks you through a one-week exercise to discover exactly what resource stream your own household produces.

4. The Holy Trinity: The 3-Bin Compost System

Build the system that captures it.

Now that you know what you are throwing away, here is the tool that turns it into soil medicine. The Holy Trinity is our three-bin compost method: Collect, Cook, Cure and this article explains each stage in plain language, with a practice to build your first pile.

5. Texas Tea

Feed the soil you have built.

Compost tea (our Texas Tea) is biology in a bottle. This article explains what it is, why Texas soil benefits from it, and how to brew your own batch with compost, water, and a simple air pump. It is the living tonic that completes the loop from scrap to soil.

Where This Leads

These five articles are a beginning, not a complete education. Together they teach you to read your soil, prepare it, capture your waste, build compost, and feed the biology beneath your feet, the foundation of everything that follows.

When you are ready to go further, there are two ways to continue:

  • Learn with us in person. Our six-module Eden Blueprint™ curriculum takes these ideas from the page into the field, growing food in containers and small spaces, harvesting water, designing productive gardens, and building community growing projects. [See upcoming workshops]

  • Go deeper with the book. The Eden Blueprint gathers the full framework into one volume, from soil and compost through seeds, community design, and the economics of regenerative work. [Learn more about the book]

You do not have to do all of this at once. Start with one article. Do one practice. Then let the next step show itself.

Change does not wait for policy. It grows from the ground up.
